Kenji Kobayashi

Primarily I work with college students at CSU Long Beach as an adviser for a Christian club known as Asian American Christian Fellowship or AACF. I've been working in AACF for 17 plus years. I'm also part of the AACF executive leadership team.

However I've decided to resign and I'm considering continuing in campus ministry with Inter Varsity.

Just South Pas and Culver City.

My parents and I immigrated from Japan and lived in Alta Dena. We moved to South Pasadena in 1970. Dad's a gardener. Mom's a house cleaning lady. My brothers and I are all married, and have moved closer to the coast.

Mostly I remember the great teachers. Mr Bueller, Mr Wes Ong, Ms Selby, Frau the eternal, Mr Goto, Mr U, Ms Thurber and the amazing Paul Groves.

I also remember being ridiculously clueless. I asked David Yoda, Andy Conklin and Khen Leong during lunch "what's a hemorrhoid?" Sorry to say that I know all too well what a hemorrhoid is, and a peri-anal abscess. Not fun. Sorry if I offend. The cluelessness continues

Among my skinny relatives on my mother's side, my grandmother had a cousin who was a sumo wrestler. And I need to cut back on the carbs.

I'm super happily married (almost 16 years), for which Christine deserves all the credit. We travel a lot. We visited Spain during Thanksgiving. Great art museums and food. Barcelona and Madris are lovely cities. Chris and I have moved to Westchester CA, very close to LAX. I do a little yard work when time and weather allows.

I'm still wondering how my abilities as an illustrator might converge with my life as a Christian missionary. Art Center, Fuller Theological Seminary. Deep sea fishing, guitar playing, leadership emergence with college students, teaching art at LACHSA and tutoring with inner city kids. How the heck does this come together?
