Occupation/Career(s) Details:

Primarily I work with college students at CSU Long Beach as an adviser for a Christian club known as Asian American Christian Fellowship or AACF. I've been working in AACF for 17 plus years. I'm also part of the AACF executive leadership team.

However I've decided to resign and I'm considering continuing in campus ministry with Inter Varsity.

Different places I have lived:

Just South Pas and Culver City.

Family history living in South Pasadena:

My parents and I immigrated from Japan and lived in Alta Dena. We moved to South Pasadena in 1970. Dad's a gardener. Mom's a house cleaning lady. My brothers and I are all married, and have moved closer to the coast.

Family members who also went to SPHS:

My brothers, Richard Kobayashi class of '84 and Jiro Kobayashi class of '88 I think.

Other SPHS graduates I keep in touch with:

Khen Leong 82, Dana Glad 82, Tina Nuckols 83, Susan Slater 83, Karen Sturzenacker 83

School Memories:

Mostly I remember the great teachers. Mr Bueller, Mr Wes Ong, Ms Selby, Frau the eternal, Mr Goto, Mr U, Ms Thurber and the amazing Paul Groves.

I also remember being ridiculously clueless. I asked David Yoda, Andy Conklin and Khen Leong during lunch "what's a hemorrhoid?" Sorry to say that I know all too well what a hemorrhoid is, and a peri-anal abscess. Not fun. Sorry if I offend. The cluelessness continues

Milestones & Epiphanies:

Among my skinny relatives on my mother's side, my grandmother had a cousin who was a sumo wrestler. And I need to cut back on the carbs.

What's happening in my life now:

I'm super happily married (almost 16 years), for which Christine deserves all the credit. We travel a lot. We visited Spain during Thanksgiving. Great art museums and food. Barcelona and Madris are lovely cities. Chris and I have moved to Westchester CA, very close to LAX. I do a little yard work when time and weather allows.

Pastimes & Hobbies:

Playing the guitar and deep sea fishing.

Favorite Music, Songs, Bands

I still like the Dead Kennedys, and Oingo Boingo. Men at Work, Doobie Brothers, Supertramp, BB King, The Violet Burning, Kieth Green, U2, Beatles, Green Day, Ohio Players, Gap band, Ella Fitzgerald, Chris Tomlin, Patsy Cline, Precious Death, James Taylor

Favorite Books, Magazines, Movies, TV etc:

"In the Name of Jesus" by Henri Nouwen, "Daniel" from the Old Testament, the "Gospel of Mark."

Additional Comments:

I'm still wondering how my abilities as an illustrator might converge with my life as a Christian missionary. Art Center, Fuller Theological Seminary. Deep sea fishing, guitar playing, leadership emergence with college students, teaching art at LACHSA and tutoring with inner city kids. How the heck does this come together?
