Nathan Dow 'Nate' Benedict

Spent most of my career working for the University of California...four years in Berkekly and 21 years in Livermore at the Lawrence Labs. I was a nuclear weapons test and procuction engineer. I retired in 1976 and moved to Friday Harbor. I was ordained Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church in 1982...organized the first Hospice in Friday Harbor. I have spent many months cruising between Fariday Harbor and Alaska on my converted Canadian fishing boat. It's been a good life!

Moved to S. P. in 1929 with Dad, Edgar, Mom, Bertha and Brother...Edgar Jr. I left S.P. High in 37 to attend New Mexico Military Institute, graduated from University School in Pasadena in 1940....attended Pomona College briefly then the war, the Navy, then part owner of a Machine Shop in Los Angeles, then out of the area to Berkekely. Brother Ed S.P. grad in 1936...now deceased.

Was good friends with Verlin Spencer...was in the shooting club he sponsored...we used the old police range up near Raymond Hill...obviously shocked by his later rampage. I went to visit him in San Quentin when I was stationed briefly in San Francisco during the war. Sad memoraies.

Maintainence of ten acres of land and a 38 foot wooden boat. This is enough to keep me busy full time!
