Keith Chase

I served for thirty-three years with Imperial Chemical Industries ( ICI Americas Inc.) headquartered in Wilmington, DE. My last 20 career years was with the Plastics Division of ICI and became Marketing Development Manager for the Western US. I traveled extensively and enjoyed working with a diverse industrial clientel. Our division manufactured polyester film under the trade name of "Melinex" and we were a major competitor to DuPont who marketed the same product under the trade name of "Mylar." It was a fun time to be in the industry as I had the opportunity to "be in" on the development of many exciting technical products.

I remember the day it snowed around 1948 or 1949. We built a snow ball on the middle of the Pacific Electric tracks. It must have been 3 feet in diameter. Once the train stopped, a massive snow ball fight started-up and the poor conductor and engineer were pelted with snow balls and the train car would later have to be cleaned out with shovels. Once on campus, our pricipal Elmer Erickson, kept the bell ringing, but I dont recall that we ever attended a class that day. We had a real white-out and a day not to forget. What fun!

My wife and I have been avid scuba divers for many years. We were instructors for over 10 years and I built and used several underwater camera housings long before they became commercially available. We owned "Sea Chase" our 32 foot diving platform for 22 years and explored our channel islands underwater every chance we got.

Over the years we have dived in the Sea of Cortez, Hawaii, Fiji, Indonesia, Micronesia, New Zealand, Red Sea, the Yucatan, Belize, Cayman, Cozumel, Bonaire. Martinique, and the Florida Keys.
We have logged over 2000 hours underwater and our trips have been an important part of our lives.

For the past 15 years we have volunteered at the
Monterey Bay Aquarium as docent "guides." We are continuing our education in marine science and enjoy the stimulating company of our associates.
