-- Involved in the development of laser printing, laser scanning, image processing and editing, word processing, optical data storage, and (as an observer and user) the development of Internet protocols and the Internet! What a wild ride!! Over 40 years worth and still learning!
One of my projects in the early 1980s was to store 4 gigabytes of data on a 14 inch diameter glass disk using lasers to write and read the data. I mostly watched the project team do the real design work and keep the paperwork off of their backs. We accomplished the objective but that technique was quickly surpassed by plastic media, audio CDs, video Discs and eventually the CD-ROM and DVDs.
Recently (14 years) served as Chief Engineer for a local Oceanside TV station, KOCT. Do everything from Voice Overs to fixing cables, cameras, recorders and anything that breaks. Added 24/7 live streaming to both channels. Get to twiddle knobs on shoots like football games, council meetings, music events and stuff like that there. It is more fun than actually working!
