Occupation(s), Career Details

I was a conservator for an elderly UCLA professor for several years in the '80s, and when George retired in '92 and started his own packaging business I did the billing and bookkeeping and still get calls from a few customers.

Different places I have lived

I grew up in the Monterey hills, in L.A. just outside the city of South Pas. I could attend SPHS because my mother worked in the So. Pas library.
George & my first residence was on Orange Grove in South Pas. Then we bought our 1st house on La Presa in San Gabriel (close to where I taught at the K.L Carver school).
Crown Zellerbach transferred us to Houston (1958 to 60) and then to Lubbock, where we lived for 9 years. Then back to So.Cal. We bought this house in 1969 & live next door to Bud Hayward (S.P. '41) & his wife Bunkie. (We live in North Tustin, but for many years Santa Ana was our mailing address.)

Family history living in South Pasadena

See above.

Family members who also went to SPHS

My brother Stan Johnson graduated in 1946. He was a designer for Chrysler & American Motors in Detroit & died of a heart attack at work in 1978.

I was very happily married to George Lindsley ('47) for over 52 years

Other SPHS graduates I keep in touch with are:

Jim McClure '46 lives a few miles from me & we keep in touch regularly.
Hugh Tassey '45 is married to my close friend from Oxy, so we keep in touch.
We went on many scuba/snorkeling trips with Stuart ('45) & Sue Ferguson, but now just keep in touch at Christmas time. We also loved visiting with Stu's sister Patsy '47 in Santa Barbara, but she died several years ago.
I see John Taylor '50 regularly because he is my attorney (who puts up with my horrible procrastina-tion!) I was his baby sitter for several years while I was in high school & he was a rambunctious pre-teenager.
I was SO pleased that Lee Hershberger & Howard Topp got our class together for our 65-year reunion a few weeks ago at the all-years' picnic at Garfield Park -- the first of these picnics I've attended. I'd like to think we'll do it again!

School Memories

My best memory is the day I got acquainted with my future husband. I was a senior & chairman of the Tri-Y and was asked to give a talk about dating to the sophomore Hi-Y. I had forgotten my notes & so I am sure I was quite rattled. In my diary I wrote that "after my talk the boys asked questions. George Lindsley asked about 20 questions. It sure was fun!"
Then 10 years later George & I bumped into each other at The Kona Hut in Laguna. 6 months later he called to ask me out, & 3 weeks later we were engaged.

Pastimes & Hobbies

I love to read, cook, putter in the garden (but thank goodness for my gardener), sew - and I start every day doing the L.A. Times crossword puzzle. I look forward to walking at the track with 3 good friends. And of course I love visiting with my kids & grandchildren. A wonderful event this May was a Regent cruise to Iceland, various islands, Scotland, Ireland, & England with my daughter.

Favorite Music, Songs, Bands

Sorry, no music gene. But I always enjoy Glenn Miller & the other golden oldies we grew up with.

Favorite Books, Magazines, Movies, TV, Websites, YouTubes, etc,

I am very active in my book club. Some of my recent favorites have been Three Cups of Tea, City of Thieves, Olive Kitteridge, Sarah's Key, The Glass Castle, and The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency series. I just finished The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and am in the middle of scheduling 23 books for the '10-11 year. (We only pay $25 a year and pass 1 or 2 books every 3 weeks. Then at the end of the year we pick one or two to keep. We are on a 4-gal committee to fix lunch once a year, and also a committee to pick a speaker.)

One last comment...

I am SO VERY lucky to have attended SPSMHS!

(George & I were on the committee for the first All-Years' reunion in 1982. I think it's neat that Joan Walker Bennett is STILL involved; it was great seeing her at the recent picnic.
