B.A. in Psychology UCLA 1971 and Ph.D. in Neuroscience UCLA 1976. Professor at UCLA first and then at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Retired in 2006 and moved close to family in 2010. I now live in a golfing community Sun City Grand near Phoenix AZ.

Milestones & Epiphanies:

Motherhood and grandmotherhood. Graduating from UCLA with a B.A. and Ph.D. Received National Institutes of Health Research Career Award; published two books in the Neuroscience field and numerous articles in scientific journals and books; and mentored many graduate and medical students as well as postdoctoral fellows from many countries. Traveled in Europe, Asia, and North and South America. I know that friends and family are a gift, that a career can be very satisfying, that traveling broadens your world view, that learning and adapting should be lifelong goals, and that love is a wondrous thing.

Classic rock, modern and smooth jazz, some electronic/techno, some new age, and definitely classical. Crosby, Stills, and Nash; Sonny Rollins and Miles Davis; and J.S. Bach.

European and Russian classics; political, historical, and especially scientific non-fiction; mysteries and hard sci-fi books. The Economist and Macworld magazines. Drama, sci-fi, documentary, and biography movies. Forensic drama, mystery, news, and travel TV programs.

Things about me that you probably don't know.

Since I was a child I can write backwards (mirror writing) as in Leonardo da Vinci's Notebooks. I can also write backwards and upside down simultaneously. It is a natural trait and not a learned one.

I resided in Ashiya, Japan in 1950 (age 10) during the American Occupation after the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombings at the end of the Second World War. I have remained in contact with a 10 year old neighbor Japanese friend and we have co-visited each other several times in the last 71 years now (currently 2021).
