My memories of Judy are not just good but loving. She had a sweet loving soul and a smile to die for. She always smiled, even when life was dealing some harsh realities. I learned to play tennis at her home and perfected my back stroke in her pool. We lost touch after high school and reconnected after our first reunion. I called and we talked for hours. We exchanged cute cards and I never saw her again. I am better for having her for a friend.

I remember my mother coming home from a conference with Mrs. Lawyer, my fifth grade teacher, and recounting a challenging situation she shared with her. Evidently Jay Culver and I were both overly exuberant in the classroom, and Mrs. Lawyer's problem was if she raised her voice to quiet either of us, Judy would put her head down and cry. Not only was Judy a gentle soul, she always championed the underdog! I regret not telling Judy how much I admired her. She was a truly good person.

Judy was one of my best friends at SPHS. I was both shocked and saddened to learn of her death from her daughters. She had sent me a Christmas card, letter, and photo with her daughters less than a year before she died. I don't think any of us knew she was terminally ill; she didn't want us to know.

I just finished reading her entry into my '63 Copa (of which she was the editor.) We shared a lot of fun and hilarious times that I'll never forget.
